Mental Health First Aid
Presented by HealthWorks
Approved for 8 hours SHRM and 7.5 hours HRCI credits
We all know that first-aid training saves lives—which is why it’s a common component of many companies’ wellness efforts. Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health related crisis. Mental health conditions cause more lost workdays and impairment than arthritis, asthma, back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Employee mental health and substance abuse issues cost U.S. employers between $80 billion and $100 billion a year, according to NIMH and suicide is the 10th leading cause of death among adults in the U.S. and the second leading cause of death among people ages 10-24.
In the Mental Health First Aid course, you will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. HEALTHWORKS' Mental Health First Aid course helps to support a mentally healthy workforce. The training is available for HR professionals as well as members of organizations to help learn:
- Risk factors and warning signs for mental illness and addiction
- Strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations
- Where to turn for help
This interactive group training covers anxiety disorders, depression, panic attacks, psychotic disorders and substance use disorders.
This program was developed by the National Council on Behavioral Health along with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and Missouri Department of Mental Health.
The training starts at 8:00 am and will end at 5:00 pm. The $25 registration fee includes a boxed lunch and a contribution to the SHRM Foundation.
